HellaBella Expands Free Booking Service For Nail Salons Nationwide, Bringing Much-Needed Technology To The Nail Salon Booking & Payment Experience

HellaBella, a startup based in New York City, launched last week after more than six months in beta tests with nail salons in Bryant Park. Their goal is to create the future of nail salon booking, starting with an interesting twist on the world of booking software–no software at all. The salon-side of HellaBella is entirely software-free. That means nail salons don’t have to go through lengthy training and don’t need to have a clunky tablet or laptop on their front desk. 

HellaBella Co-Founder Matt Tumbleson has met with hundreds of nail salon owners since launching the HellaBella beta in November 2018. 

“Our goal is to give women and men a great booking experience at their local nail salon, not to turn nail salons into tech hubs,” Tumbleson said. “We’ve spent hundreds of hours inside nail salons, and as you probably know–there’s a lot of chemicals and things that make it a less than ideal location for a giant tablet. Plus, more nail salons still prefer using a pad of paper for appointments.”

HellaBella’s experience for nail salons is simple. When a customer books an appointment, the nail salon manager receives a text message with the date, time, and services the customer ordered. The manager then replies to the text to confirm. Texts can be in English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, or Vietnamese. 

Customers pay before their information is sent to the nail salon, so all services are paid to the nail salon upfront. 

“Salons love that they are paid right away,” said Layne Cox, an advisor to HellaBella. “The HellaBella technology automatically routes customer payment to the salon via ACH, debit card, or Venmo so it’s a seamless transaction. HellaBella sends real, paid bookings right to the nail salon.”

HellaBella plans on creating the nation’s largest, most complete database with information for tens of thousands of nail salons in the US. Once the data is unified, the entire industry can improve for the nail salon owners and employees.

“We knew that certain aspects of nail salons could be greatly improved with a singular data set,” Tumbleson said. “Nail salon services pricing, for example, hasn’t changed in years. Most nail salons are still charging the same price for a manicure as they were charging in 1996. We’ll be able to give recommendations on pricing, so these small businesses can increase their revenue and stop surviving off of super-slim margins.”

Unlike services like Yelp and Groupon, there are no trade-offs with HellaBella. Yelp charges monthly fees to nail salons to access their own customers, and Groupon encourages bad, discount-focused customers to book services, ultimately resulting in losses for salons. HellaBella customers pay full price, and all customer service issues are handled by HellaBella so nail salons can be sure their online reputation is in good hands.
